Riduci10th AAW 18-24 Febr. 2013

10th  Antarctic  Activity  Week
18-24 Feb. 2013

How may I register my station for 10th AAW ?
As we are receiving questions on how to join the Antarctica Activity Week, here below there is a brief explanation written by Gianni I1HYW.
To enter the AAW, it's necessary to have a Special callsign (not the home call) issued to celebrate the event; suggested are suffix with AAWANTWAP, or A which stands for Antarctica (just for example I have requested as every year, my IR1ANT call, issued by the Ministry of Telecommunication of my Country for the AAW event). To any Special Event callsign will be given a WAP reference number to be used during the event.
I don't know the law/rules to get a Special Event callsign of foreign Countries,  but the applicant should get in any case an authorization to eventually use his own callsign:  /ANT, /AAW, /WAP or /A etc. , since just a pure own call  is not a special event call, but a classic home call which could not be given a WAP reference number.
Participation is open; hunters can try to contact as many as AAW SES which WAP reference number can be used when applying for WAP Antarctic Awards according to the Award’s rules.

... don't loose the opportunity;  apply on time for your Special event Callsign to celebrate the 10th edition of the Antarctic Activity Week with us!  See you next year...

Congrats to IZØUIM to be the 1st one on the 10th AAW list of participants !

Next Edition of the Antarctic Activity Week, will start  on 21 February 2011. Make sure you will be ready to join us. Book on time your Special Callsign to celebrate Antarctica!

The following stations have already booked for the 2011's AAW!

Italy holds three National Museums located in three different Cities: Genova, Siena and Trieste. They have been  established in 1996 and named Felice Ippolito in memory of its first President. During the 8th AAW, some Special Event Stations will activate for the first time MNA of Trieste using II3MNA WAP-205 and MNA of Siena, using IO5ANT WAP-210.

Italian National Antarctic Museum of Genova: On October 2, 1998 the Exhibit Centre was inaugurated in the area of the Ancient Port, a new pole of cultural and tourist attraction of Genova. The Museum aims to inform the public about the Antarctic continent and the research activities, especially the ones related to the biological sector, carried out during the expeditions to Antarctica.

Italian National Antarctic Museum of Siena: Situated at the Didactical Complex of Laterino, the exhibit has the aim to promote the knowledge of Antarctic continent and connected research activities with special emphasis on the geological, climatological and environmental evolution of the icy Continent.

Italian National Antarctic Museum of Trieste: Situated at the Comprensorio San Giovanni, the exhibit site made available by the Department of Geology of the University of Trieste, has the aim to promote the knowledge of any documentation of the history of exploration of the continent. Its objectives are the conservation, study and enhancement of Antarctic materials relating to the marine geology and marine geophysics research fields, as well as of the history of the explorations of the continent.

Riduci1st Antarctic Activity Week, an event launched by WAP

pingu.gif1st Antarctic Activity Week 2004 launched by WAP
22-28 February 2004

We are thinking on how improving the Worldwide interest around Antarctic Continent and its related  matters. After a bit of brainstorming, we got  some ideas which we would like to present to the attention of our readers and followers. Worldwide Antarctic Program (WAP), has got a lot of interest and received several dozens of appreciations, eventhough we did start with a Web Site just a little ago. What’s to do to achieve better results? We have thought to launch an Antarctica Week Activity,  to be celebrated every years on last week of February, and in any case the week should incorporate  the 22nd of February, where the Argentines are celebrating the  DIA DE LA ANTARTIDA ARGENTINA (Argentine’s Antarctica Day).

For the coming year 2004, it will start  February the 22nd and will be closed on February 28th .

This is an invitation opened to all Radio Amateurs around the world, to the Clubs and Organizations who would like to join us,  and share with us this initiative. Let me try to explain what,  in our mind, has to be done.

We are looking for Special Prefixes recalling Antarctica as for example IR8ANT, IR2ANT, TM…ANT, DL…ANT, UA2004ANT, ZX…ANT, KK…ANT, VK….ANT, VX…ANT  and so on. In other words, a kind of Special  Prefixes from each Countries, with the suffix ANT.

Stations from Antarctica can join us and working as many Hams as possible. Nobody will have to give progressive numbers (we do not want to have bureaucracy), nothing at all, just working as DX stile.

Club stations of the Antarctic Institutes, as well as Antarctic Organizations (such as LU2CN Servicio Auxiliar de la Armada who care the Antarctic matters in Argentina, or IY0A in Italy, or any eventual other of such stations), can join the Antarctica  Activity Week.

This is a proposal, and of course we would like to see your comments and suggestions.

Those are ideas, now we need your comments, your point of view, your suggestion to let us know if this first attempt could find your interest. If we will see some kind of appreciation, than we will start.

Again our intention is to draw your attention on The Antarctic Continent, to understand what the Nations are doing to protect this corner of the world still non contaminated, to share a message of peace among the World. Hope you will answer, we’ll be anxious to read your comment.

Regards from the WAP Staff
